Under-Watercolor – new artwork

May 14, 2011 by StephanieCorfee

Under-Watercolor-smi have a problem with doing things in threes.

My previous post was an experiment with some photoshop brushes to create a colorful transparent effect with a doodled top layer. And here’s another….#2…..which means ya’ll can count on at least one more in this style!

A customer had asked me to do a painting with “Marmalade” as its color story. Bright, sunshiney, orangey tones. Since i typically have no exact expectations for color when i begin a painting, i thought a digital painting would be a great exericse to help me build the color profile for the painting.

This is the result. i like it.

Now, when i do the actual “Marmalade” painting, some variations will inevitably occur. Paint is an animal all its own, of course…not as well behaved always as the pixels on my screen. But this is a good start. And in the meantime, i’ll happily make myself a print of this little ditty because the color just makes me so darned happy!

So thanks Kristina, for unwittingly helping me create a new art piece for my house. It’ll be in a frame by end of day. : )

New Artwork – its in the eyes

September 28, 2010 by StephanieCorfee

YellowStare001 I sketched this portrait a while back. She has piercing eyes. She knows something you don’t. It’s killing you! You NEED to know.

i pulled the sketch, which was done in colored pencil, black india ink and pastel pencil, into photoshop and had at it with my increasingly well-loved graphics tablet and stylus. It wasn’t intense enough for me! HA! But now i like it a lot. This here art-makin stuff is super fun!

shameless plugs – flip flops baby!

April 3, 2010 by StephanieCorfee

SUB---BarefootHippiei’ve gone out on a limb and entered a contest. Seems like a long shot, but a sweet twitter friend told me that “EVERYTHING is a long shot, but we shorten the odds by going after it.” i knew i loved her! So here is my shameless plug. These are the last 3 days to vote for my “Barefoot Hippie” design for a tee and Havaianas flip flops on threadless.com. i think i might die if i were to win….so i should be careful what i wish for. But the possibility of having my design walking around all summer on peoples well-manicured feet is just too, too awesome. Had to take a chance!

Please vote here!

when art comes in handy – making a birthday cake

March 29, 2010 by StephanieCorfee

Coop 4th Bday Cake

Since i am very newly dedicated to my blog and have been keeping up nicely, i tell myself i have to have a good reason to miss a few days. Enter my son’s 4th birthday this past week and all the revelry, baking, picture taking and gift shopping that go along with it. i’ve missed a few days in my blog life, but they’ve been full IRL.

When making your child’s birthday cake (and of course he chooses a character they haven’t made a specialty cake pan for!)….art skills SURE DO come in handy.

So this is what craftiness i’ve been up to the past few days. i can’t sell it in my etsy shop and i can’t really think of anyone, save for maybe an avid CG fan?, who’d want to hang the image on their wall, but creating this work of “art” for my little guy made his eyes light up. And that’s good enough for me.
