New ARtwork

January 9, 2013 by StephanieCorfee

LUSH – 36 x 36 x 1.5″ Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

Recently, my paintings have been inspired by the idea of reinventing themes for nurseries or kids spaces. That’s not to say the finished pieces can only be used in those spaces. But i have been thinking a lot about how more “grown up” art can really work for kids. This piece was my take on a room with a jungle, animal, rain forest…even pirate island theme. i’d hang it over the crib as a statement piece. Wouldn’t stuffed monkeys and elephants look right at home with it? But yet, its not so obvious and literal that it couldn’t translate into other rooms of the house.

Here are some detail images of the painting:

You might remember another piece i did a couple months back, titled BALLERINA? Same idea there. A complement to a ballerina themed room, but in a subtle, abstracted way : )

What types of art do all of you like to use in kids spaces?

New! – Decor Inspired by Art

May 11, 2012 by StephanieCorfee

i’ve been dreaming of a little girl’s room inspired by my Mermaid’s Waterfall painting ever since the last stroke of paint had dried.

Here is a little collection of decor items found on etsy and the web that i’d love to use in my fictitious room. The metallic gold swooshes in the painting are my favorite bit to pull out!

i’m also envisioning loosely woven linen type curtains with a bit of coral fisherman’s net swag at the top and some driftwood inspired, weathered furnishings with a touch of white paint. ahhh…girls. a whole different kind of inspiration than my boys (who are cool too!) – just different. : ) (click the collage to enlarge)

1. ombré ruffle bedspread by urban outfitters

2. sandcastle pillow by gypseanurse on etsy

3. sea urchin candleholder (flameless candle for a kiddo of course!) by beautifuldetailswed on etsy

4. capiz shell chandelier by Lou Lou & Company on etsy

5. ocean plait nautical manila rope mat by mystic knotwork on etsy

6. starfish drawer pulls by juxtapositionsc on etsy

7. sea coral in aqua pillow by gypseanurse on etsy

8. Nate Berkus gold sequin throw pillow – sadly, a discontinued product from HSN, but possibly DIY?

9. cast iron round mermaid mirror by carol & andrew on etsy (choose your own color!)

i will continue to build inspiration boards around my paintings to give ya’ll my insight and vision for how the art might fit into or inspire a room!

Completed Works – Flower Stalker

September 24, 2010 by StephanieCorfee

Flower StalkerAs i explore using some more muted colors in tandem with the brights, i find myself creating lots of light-as-a-feather line sketches which i’m having fun overlapping on textured backgrounds. My muse is a baby girl’s nursery.

What would i want to hang on the wall in such a place? What kind of mood would i want to set?

It’s proving to be a fun challenge as i force myself to look at less saturated colors and interesting combinations of light and dark, subtlety and contrast. The exercise is also helping me to get a fresh perspective. Sometimes i find myself so bogged down in packing and shipping and emailing and tweeting, i forget that the art needs to come first and that i want to evolve and change. i will have to force myself out of my own box much more often in the future, because i like surprising myself. It’s fun! How would i ever have known i had this little ditty inside me if i hadn’t tried?

This print, titled “Flower Stalker”, is available in my etsy shop.
