lost in the sauce – painting something different

July 31, 2014 by StephanieCorfee

Sometimes being an artist is deadlines and measurements, and technical files and clerical work. Sometimes it is execution of orders and commissioned paintings with specific parameters and color schemes. It’s ok. Every job has boring-but-necessary parts, enjoyable parts…and then stinkin AWESOME parts. i got to make a painting (above- Sparkling Water) purely for my own self expression recently and it was pretty stinkin awesome.

i let myself evolve a little, without being afraid that i’d lose my audience. Because we all evolve. It’s fun. i love change. But when you build your brand on a certain look, a bit of fear creeps in that you need to stay the course and give the people what they want. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for evolution.

But i posted the new art on facebook, as i am apt to do….and people didn’t UNLIKE me. Whaddya know? Lots of folks really liked this it even though it is something new and different. Phew.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

i’ve been feeling a real bug to explore muted color and transparent color and mixing of watercolors and acrylics a lot lately. i’ve also been messing with portraits like you wouldn’t believe. (i will share soon!)

It’s wonderful to be able to trust yourself enough to change and experiment. i am going for it full-tilt now that the band-aid has been ripped off.

What’s Been Goin Down Here at the Studio

May 27, 2011 by StephanieCorfee

hello friends!

let’s see…how many blog posts can i begin with an apology for recent absence? methinks that maybe 10 or 12 is the limit, so i’ve still got 1 or 2 in my pocket.

i feel so sad and disheartened on one hand, because i know that my lack of posts, presence, downloads and new art of late has made me a major yawn, and i’ve probably lost the interest of so many of you fine people. but on the other hand, i’ve had a good reason that’s been keeping me burning the midnight oil. And i just decided to embrace the blog hiatus and put it to good use. i’ve hired someone to update my site and someone to consult with me about how i can make it better. i’m trying my best because you guys deserve it!

here’s just teeny peek -of how the new site will look –  a cross-section of the new header….fun!

i hope the new site is a place full of inspiration, easy accessibility, lots of new art posts and for the first time…..drumroll….

i will be offering my original artworks up for sale on a regular basis, right here on the blog.

yep.

BUY NOW buttons.

lots of ’em.

feel free to click. fun things happen when you click : )

the new site will have tutorial and download posts cataloged on their very own pages to keep ’em handy and dandy for ya’ll.

i will have a portfolio of all my custom projects so everybody can keep up with all the fun and unique commissions i’m getting to do these days.

AND i will have a page to SHOP MY ORIGINALS! i am nervous about this most of all. i’ve never really put my original pieces out there for public consumption. 90% of my offerings the past couple years have been prints.

There’s something scary about putting a larger pricetag on yourself. Prints, i can handle. Everything under $30! Woohoo! No stress.

But since my original pieces pretty much ALL result from hours and hours of tiny detail work and layers of color…their pricetags aren’t so teeny. i’d like to think those L’oreal commercials are right and “i’m worth it.” time will tell.

Now, don’t fret! i WILL be creating some smaller size originals too, with appropriately smaller prices….so hopefully, i’ll not alienate people who shop more frugally (like me!!) – for odds and ends like art!!

i mean, we gotta have cash left over for art supplies, facials…..and sushi – on a regular basis….in restaurants that require something a little nicer than sweats. : ) right?

SOOOOOOO…..

the new site should be up and running sometime next week, god willing! so, please share me with your homies and tell everyone i’m gonna be a better blogger/artist moving forward, and will be keeping you more stocked with new content!

to kick it all off, here’s a first original posting for ya’ll. can’t wait to share even more!

-xo
