As i begin my “Summer O’ Paintin”, as i like to call it, i have been searching inwardly and outwardly for inspiration. So take a looky here. Kendra Binney has my number. Not because our styles are all that similar (though, my dear readers have yet to really see my painting style since all i’ve posted for ya’ll so far is illustration work done in pen and ink), but because she does one thing, that i always strive to do, brilliantly well. She melds deep, rich, multi-hued background fields with bright, quirky, whimsical subjects without it ever getting overworked and murky. The elegant and “mature” color palettes play against the youthful spirit and playfulness of the the other elements like swirls and sketchy leaves in such a perfect way. The paintings blur the line of “appropriateness”, which is a word i just abhor when it comes to art. Lots of folks want “grown up” artwork in their living area and dining room and reserve things that have any sort of child-like feel for kids rooms and play rooms. I think this artist creates wok that would be beautiful in ANY room. It’s inspiring.
