when art comes in handy – making a birthday cake

Since i am very newly dedicated to my blog and have been keeping up nicely, i tell myself i have to have a good reason to miss a few days. Enter my son’s 4th birthday this past week and all the revelry, baking, picture taking and gift shopping that go along with it. i’ve missed a few days in my blog life, but they’ve been full IRL.
When making your child’s birthday cake (and of course he chooses a character they haven’t made a specialty cake pan for!)….art skills SURE DO come in handy.
So this is what craftiness i’ve been up to the past few days. i can’t sell it in my etsy shop and i can’t really think of anyone, save for maybe an avid CG fan?, who’d want to hang the image on their wall, but creating this work of “art” for my little guy made his eyes light up. And that’s good enough for me.

Aw that’s very cool. What better cake than one designed by mom.
thanks karyna : ) oh definitely. his birthday only comes once a year. the effort is totally worth it!
Um – I hope you know you are like one of the most talented people I know. How awesome is that cake?!?! And are you sure you can’t sell it in your Etsy shop? Cause Lola loves her some Curious George and she also happens to be getting closer to the 2 year birthday…
tara, c’mon now! really? considering the wildly talented group of people YOU actually know, that’s pretty high praise : ) And btw, i have a homemade, pull-the-ribbons-style, #2 piƱata i had made back on coop’s 2nd birthday of you want to borrow it : ) thanks for starting my morning with such a nice comment.
