teaser…the live action illustration project

FTMlandscapePic

Last night (or this morning?) at around 1am, i turned off the camera and walked away from my work. i’d filled 2, one hour tapes and also done considerable prep work ahead of time….so the finished art (blurred to keep the actual image secret until the quicktime short is complete) probably took about 4-5 hours. This is how the art desk looked at the end.

If you’ve been following the blog, you know that i’m doing this project in collaboration with feedthemuse.net, a fundraising vehicle for indie artists of all types; musicians, visual artists, filmmakers…go check them out!

So what was it like you ask? Was it nerve-wracking? Did it affect my technique? The answer to both these questions is YES! The process was so strange for me. Usually i draw in micro fine pen lines that are frail and delicate and this demanded broader strokes so they’d be more impactful on camera. The lines felt so chunky and thick to me! i was also completely aware of the time constraints on me and didn’t labor over small detail as much as i usually do. All in all, it resulted in a piece that is me….but different. There were no re-dos, no re-starts….no chances to second guess myself. There were also no bathroom breaks or pauses to stretch or rest my eyes. Working on the light table is apparently easier for the guy doing the editing….but it was so weird for me. Every color i laid down looked fluorescent with the light behind it. i felt like i was coloring blind. At many times, i was like, “i hope this color will look nice next to this other one – here we go!” And all that fluorescent color started making my eyes bleary and blurry near the end too. Such a surreal couple of hours.

So now the tapes go to post and i guess i won’t see anything til i see the final cut, with music and voice-over. Watch for a link! i’m sure i’ll be posting it within seconds of receiving it! haha! i’ve never been good at keeping fun stuff to myself!
