Portraits with whimsy & magic

CorfeeWhimsicalPortraits-TallPinWatercolor, florals, doodles, drips and spatter. i’ve been combining all my favorite painting tidbits into these charming whimsical portraits recently. They make a gorgeous keepsake and look beautiful framed in a nursery or little girl’s room. i scan and keep high resolution digital files of the art, so customers can have the art printed on mugs or in photo books as well. This also allows me to offer additional prints at various sizes so that grandparents, family or friends can have a mini version of the art for their desk as well.

Visit my shop here to purchase one of these darling portraits, and take a look at my other prints and originals while you’re there, too! ; )

Pencil Portrait: Sisters

No matter how many years pass or how many painting and sketching styles i try out along the way, i think i will always continue to do plain old pencil portraits. i love them so. These cutie patootie sisters were too precious not to share.

Drop me a line if you’d like to give a portrait gift for a holiday or special occasion. i’ve done quite a few for fellas looking to make their kiddos’ mama cry that happy, mushy cry.

Books, Blog Neglect and Babies

You know how sometimes you neglect your blog for about 3 months?

…and you make all kinds of fun art for a new book?

…and have a baby?

yeah, its been kinda like that around here. But i’ll be back to blogging now with new art like this:

And in the fall you’ll see a new book i made that looks like this:

…and mucho inspiration from a little baby boy who looks like this:

Tweaking Baby Rooms

i wanted to share some guest post content from a while back where i gave my thoughts on tweaking nursery and kids room decor. This one was featured on urban infant.

Do you want to create a modern baby room – something that is full of style and isn’t your typical “blue or pink?”

Here are some tips to help you create a beautiful room for your baby that also has a lot of style:

Try Pale Lilac, Instead Of Pink – I think a pale lilac is uber-feminine and fragile/dainty without being the standard requisite pink.

Grey Is An Awesome Neutral – Greys look sophisticated and “intelligent” to me. Greys are a beautifully soft, and a chic alternative to cream or tan in a modern kids room. Plus, bold colors look fantastic on a sea of grey.

Go With An Inky Blue – I think inky, violet-blue is a rich alternative to standard navy. It’s impossible for that color to look saccharine. It is serene and full of power at the same time. An inky room, with all soft pastels and frothy textures layered in, is like the baby room version of a power suit with a soft silk blouse underneath!

Make A Statement– I always like to choose one truly spectacular centerpiece for a space. That could be a great textile, a pillow, a family heirloom or toy. Its your “wow” moment. Every room can benefit from a “wow” moment and it has to be something you and your child LOVE.

Add Some Artwork – Adding a piece of artwork is a very simple and easy way to transform a room. Choose the biggest piece you can afford for the scale of the room, and you won’t have to do much else, as far as decorating goes.

Finish With A Personal Touch – Your finishing touch should be something personal. Add a family photo or a piece with your child’s name or initials.

a little post about a year…

its here! my doodle book is finally here! actually, it came late december, but who has time to blog amidst making MANY christmas cookies and wrapping lots of goodies? : )

2011 was such an amazing year with milestones, joy and tears. So my first post of 2012 is really a thank you to all of you who supported me the whole way through this whirlwind year.

From watching my belly grow week by week on Facebook until out popped a beautiful baby boy only a few weeks before my firstborn turned 5! i cannot believe i have a kindergartener now! hmmm, and factoid: that room in the photo is a lovely pale shade of grey now.

….to cheering me on as i illustrated my very first book, and got to see it on the shelves at Barnes & Noble!? i didn’t care if i looked geeky….i snapped an iPhone photo or 2 when we spotted it! : )

…..to continuing to cheer me on even when it was probably getting PRETTY boring – as i DOODLED my way to writing my 2nd book. MAN! i really could not be more humbled by the people surrounding me. You guys never complained about how blah my facebook posts were all that while. that’s totally impressive….cuz they were REALLY blah.

i closed out the year doing a lot of painting….a lot. see?

and hung a solo local art show that is actually still up thru january at Milkboy Coffee in Ardmore, PA. Its a cool coffeehouse/LIVE music venue that our family really loves. i highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches! i’ll be taking down the show at the end of the month and will try my best to find homes for all these babies. my house cannot contain them. 3 of them are 4 feet square! so keep me in mind if you are looking to splash some color on the wall.

lastly, a new little book i collaborated on at the tail end of the year is slated to come out in spring and i can’t wait to share the details. But until then…

…x to tha o my friends. i am truly thankful because i couldn’t have done any of it without you. i sure do hope that 2012 holds many blessings for all of you and your families.

my 3 new babies

i’ve been away for a while.

i had 2 babies and have another on the way.

Only one of these babies is cute and cuddly and needs diaper changes.

The other 2 are BOOKS!! Yep!…my first little nuggets of publishing goodness.

The first book’s content is complete. You can find it here for pre-sale and it should be widely available around mid-summer.

The other book is available for pre-sale here. But it won’t be available til the very end of the year or maybe even start of 2012.

Both books are highly likely to be available in my etsy shop as well. i’m hoping to pre-order a bundle that i can sign and sell myself so that i can then donate the profits to a local charity or worthy cause. : )

But my most precious little baby is NOT available for pre-sale or otherwise. i’m keeping him all to myself! My little bundle of coos & smiles arrived a teeny bit early, and wanted out in a hurry once he’d decided! He was born on March 5, 2011 at 10:31pm weighing in at 7lbs 15oz. and measuring 20 3/4″ long. We are all in love with him.

SO!!! Now i am getting out of the mire and back to feeling like myself again. Expect more regular postings to resume and much new artwork, inspired by the sunnier weather ahead and the happiness that only a new addition to the family can bring.
